Extra train for tomorrow's Scotland and New Zealand rugby international

A train departs Edinburgh's Waverley station
The last train leaving Waverley will be more than an hour later than normal to accomodate the rugby fans

Leaving Murrayfield after well attended games can turn an afternoon out into an evening for some rugby fans. Although tickets aren't sold out for tomorrow's international, a large crowd is expected.

To try and alleviate the pressure of up to 67,000 people descending on the city centre on Saturday for the Scotland match with New Zealand, train operator East Coast is providing an additional evening service from Edinburgh to help get rugby fans home.

For those travelling by car, the Tripshare website lets people find out if anybody is making the same journey in an effort to reduce pollution.

The extra train service to East Lothian, Berwickshire, Northumberland and Tyneside will depart Edinburgh Waverley at 8.15pm and call at Dunbar 8.37pm, Berwick 9pm and Alnmouth 9.20pm before arriving in Newcastle just before 10pm.

East Coast usually operates 42 services directly between Edinburgh and Newcastle with the last train scheduled to depart at 7pm.

Their commercial director Peter Williams said:

"Games between Scotland and New Zealand always draw huge crowds and we have provided the extra service especially to meet the demand from fans travelling home afterwards.

"We expect the service to be busy and advise travellers to make their plans and reserve their seats as soon as possible."

Tickets can be booked online here.

We're keen to see your photos from the match too, whether taken in our outside the stadium, you can share them on our Flickr stream.
