Extra Time: New magazine dedicated to football in Ayrshire hits the shops

Football fans in Ayrshire can hit the back of the net – by picking up a paper dedicated to the beautiful game across the region.

Extra Time is on sale at all good newsagents, shops and supermarkets throughout Ayrshire.

Produced by staff from the Ayrshire Post, Irvine Herald and Kilmarnock Standard — who together make up the online Ayrshire Live brand — its 56 pages are packed with engaging interviews and terrific features with all content exclusive to this publication.

From Kilmarnock and Ayr United in the SPFL to the plethora of local clubs in the West of Scotland League (WoSFL), we’ve got our game well and truly covered.

Indeed, every one of our 26 SPFL and WoSFL sides receives recognition in Extra Time which is dedicated to celebrating Ayrshire football, with a fair helping of nostalgia thrown in.

There are in-depth interviews with Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes, Ayr chief Lee Bullen and Auchinleck Talbot supremo Tommy Sloan who discuss their managerial journeys.

‘Matchnight with the Manager’ provides an insightful look behind the scenes with full dressing room access alongside Chris Strain for Kilwinning Rangers’ recent clash at home to Cumnock.

Meanwhile, ‘Derby Day Fever’ throws the spotlight on the Garnock Valley dust-ups between arch-rivals Kilbirnie Ladeside and Beith.

Killie fans can relive their side’s Scottish Cup and League Cup triumphs, 25 and 10 years ago respectively, while legendary Ayrshire Post sports writer Mike Wilson indulges in the last 50 years of getting up close and personal with Ayr in Honest Men Memories.

Extra Time aims to capture the teams, people and fans which make football special here; it really does mean so much to so many people.

And it’s not just about the game on a Saturday — a football club puts a town or village on the map. It is a focal point for the local community.

Colin Paterson — Editor of the Kilmarnock Standard, Ayrshire Live and Extra Time — said: “When putting together this publication, we wanted to make sure we covered every West of Scotland League club together with providing eye-catching interviews and features from Killie and Ayr.

“We have also put amateur football and women’s football in the spotlight and we’re sure those of you a little older in the tooth will enjoy some of the nostalgia among these pages.

“My thanks go to everyone who contributed to Extra Time, particularly my writers Lochlin Highet, Eric McGowan, Stuart Wilson and Mike; and Production Editor Maurice Coyne for his incredible design work.

“I believe football fans from all over Ayrshire will enjoy Extra Time as we look forward to an exciting end to the season.”
