Extra officers on patrol after youths spotted on top of the roof of Shotts club

Around 20 youths were caught on the roof of a popular Shotts social club.

And members of Shotts Bon Accord Social Club fear a serious accident could occur unless the tearaway teenagers curb their behaviour.

Ian McKie, from the Bon Accord Club, said: “The kids were teenagers about 14 or 15 on the roof of the social club. The roof is 25 or 30ft high.

“It happened last Friday night. It’s an ongoing problem.

“My main concern is if someone falls off or I get a call saying there’s been an accident. I’m really concerned because it’s an accident waiting to happen.

“We still haven’t opened up yet because we depend on functions and live acts but stuff like this doesn’t help.

“I have contacted the police and the schools and now I’m going to speak to the local councillors.

“A lot of local residents have been out telling them to get down but they’ve just been given the fingers or being swore at.”

Police have confirmed the incident on Friday, August 21, and appealed to those involved in the bother to stop it.

Inspector Stephen Murray, from Wishaw Police Office, said: “We are aware of reports of local youths climbing on the roof of the Bon Accord Social Club.

“Extra attention will be paid to the area over the weekend by uniformed officers.

“We are appealing for the kids in the area to stay off the premises, if anyone was to fall from the roof they could be seriously injured.”
