Families in NSW are set to benefit from an extra year of free preschool after the state government committed to a $120 million funding package.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Sunday announced a commitment to help more than 44,000 three to five-year-olds attend community preschool.
The funding will provide up to 15 hours of free care per child each week, which could save families more than $2000 per child for the year.
Ms Berejiklian said the move would provide certainty for parents into the future and help ease hip pocket pressure.
"Support for families and children has been a priority for this government during the pandemic and I'm committed to see it continue while we recover," the NSW premier said in a statement on Sunday.
"The free preschool program has supported countless jobs, and kept children learning and engaged during some of their most important years."
NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the funding would also support more than 7400 early childhood educators and teachers.
The funding will be made available to approximately 700 state-funded community preschools and 38 mobile preschool services.
