Extra Coronation Street episode to air tonight amid David Platt prison drama

Coronation Street fans are being given an extra dose of the Cobbles this week as an episode will air this evening, as well as during the usual Monday, Wednesday and Friday slots.

This will come as good news for fans wanting to know what really happened during last week's prison riot, which saw fan favourite David Platt accused of stabbing Josh Tucker.

Josh had previously raped David -leading some fans to think he probably did do it.

After Josh told coppers that David was the guilty party in the stabbing, Billy Mayhew paid him a visit in the hospital to get to the bottom of what went down during the ruckus.

Paul Foreman also dived headfirst into the drama, sneaking into Josh's room disguised as a cleaner.

"I know what you are," a raging Paul told Josh, and told him that he had to change his statement and tell the truth of what happened.

Now fans think David will be released in time for his wedding to Shona - but others reckon that's too sweet of a story ending for unlucky David.

Meanwhile, the fallout from Sinead's death two weeks ago continues to be a proper tearjerker.

Husband Daniel had fled to Scotland with baby Bertie after Sinead died, following a battle with cancer.

He shocked his loved ones - and fans - by announcing to dad Ken Barlow he wouldn't be back for the funeral.

Fans have penned tweets to the character urging him to head home.

One wrote: "Daniel you need to come home."

Another said: "Someone please help Daniel #Corrie."

"Please come back for Sinead's funeral Daniel," a third urged.

The show's also gearing up for a killer Christmas, with the highly anticipated wedding of Tristan Gemmill's love rat Robert Preston to Kym Marsh's unlucky-in-love Michelle Connor.

It won't be the first time they've tied the knot, and the second time around will be a tragic affair too as Robert's set to be gunned down.

Coronation Street returns tonight at 8:30pm on ITV.
