'Extra bank holiday Monday' celebration plans possible if England win Euro 2020

Brits may get an extra bank holiday Monday if England win Euro 2020.

The Three Lions will face Italy on Sunday night in their first tournament final since the 1966 World Cup.

Now the Manchester Evening News reports that Government ministers were debating last night how to celebrate should England lift the trophy.

One suggestion, reports POLITICO., was a last-minute national holiday on Monday - especially since there's little prospect of any work given the number of expected hangovers.

A last-minute holiday would pose a major logistical challenge. However, Government officials think there should be a 'national day of celebration' if England are successful.

There is also speculation as to whether manager Gareth Southgate and players such as Raheem Sterling are in line for knighthoods, regardless of the result.

Sterling, 26, is already an MBE and has been England's standout player of the tournament.

He was sensational on Wednesday as England booked their place in the final with a superb 2-1 victory over Denmark.

And the Government has already given fans a boost, licensing laws will be eased to allow pubs to stay open until 11.15pm in case the game goes to extra time and penalties.
