Extinction Rebellion: Shocking video shows protester being pulled down from London tube train

An Extinction Rebellion protester who mounted the roof of a London underground train is believed to be a Bristol resident.

Footage posted online yesterday (October 17) shows a man being dragged off a train roof at Canning Town Station by frustrated commuters.

The man is believed to be James Mee, 35, an accounts administrator living in Bristol.

Mr Mee, of Filton, spoke to Bristol Live last week after announcing he had been arrested and charged with public nuisance in London on Tuesday, October 8.

"It's my first bout of activism," Mr Mee said. "Extinction Rebellion is the first mass movement that's given me and other people hope."

He added: "It's not a festival - it's not fun. But it's really important."

During yesterday's rush hour, activists climbed onto trains at Stratford, Canning Town and Shadwell, prompting a string of arrests.

Many people who rely on the public transport system to get to work were critical of the protesters' behaviour, with some appearing to hit the activists.

A Bristol grandfather was among those who participated in the disruption.

Phil Kingston, from Patchway, glued himself to a Docklands Light Railway train that had pulled into Shadwell.

The 83-year-old said: “I’m doing this primarily for my grandchildren, because I’ve learned that what they’re heading towards at the moment is an increase in temperature of over three degrees centigrade."

He added: "I’m just here to ring an alarm bell, to wake up people and say, 'Please open your eyes - see what’s happening to your children and grandchildren’."
