Extinction Rebellion says sorry to 'the people of Cardiff': The full letter

The protesters who have blocked Cardiff's Castle Street for the past three days have written a letter to the people of Cardiff.

Using a green boat the activists from Extinction Rebellion Cymru stopped any traffic (with the exception of emergency vehicles) coming through the busy artery into the city centre.

The protesters were campaigning against the lack of action to tackle the impending climate distarter. Scientists around the globe agree that without urgent action our worlds climate will be irreversibly damaged and possibly inhospitable.

Their protest has received mixed reactions with some people furious about delays to their days and others ultimately agree with the cause.

In response to this Extinction Rebellion Cymru have published a letter to people in Cardiff to explain their actions. Within it they say how "sorry" they are but that the actions were necersary.

Earlier today, they  voted to leave Castle Street   on Wednesday afternoon with a procession to City Hall.

The protesters say that despite declarations of a climate emergency by first Wales’ then Scotland’s and UK governments there has been no emergency action.

Extinction Rebellion is an international protest group that uses non-violent civil disobedience to campaign on environmental issues.

More than 1,000 activists were arrested in April 2019 after protesters occupied four sites across London. They also blocked roads, disrupted a train line and conducted a protest at Heathrow.
