The Met Police has ordered an early end to Extinction Rebellion's Autumn Uprising as arrests near 1,500 in London.
Officers began to clear the "designated protest space" of Trafalgar Square after protesters caused mayhem in the City of London earlier on Monday by blocking major roads and junctions.
The activists had vowed to cause "maximum disruption" to the finance hub, claiming the banking sector’s “contribution to funding climate breakdown is driving us towards ecological collapse.”
So far, at least 1,445 people have been arrested in connection with the protests, which started on Monday last week.
