Extinction Rebellion protest reaches COP26 campus as Glasgow roads blocked off

Roads have been shut off in Glasgow amid an Extinction Rebellion protest in the city.

Earlier this afternoon climate change activists blocked a road outside the Glasgow office of US banking giant JP Morgan with hundreds making their voices heard on Wellington and Waterloo Street.

Many were seen holding signs reading 'stop funding fossil fuels', while women dressed as suffragettes and others clad entirely in red also took part in the colourful protest against the banking behemoth, which they claim is the largest funder of fossil fuels in the world, Daily Record reports.

They have now made their way to the COP26 campus at the SEC where around 30 people have staged a sit-down protest, just a few hundred metres from where world leaders and delegates from across the globe are due to be negotiating a path forward out of the climate crisis.

It's understood traffic making its way over the Squinty Bridge has been disrupted, including local bus services. Police have advised people to leave the scene by using the pedestrian Squiggly Bridge along the Clyde.

A slew of protests have been planned throughout the two-week conference, including a further Extinction Rebellion protest set to start at the top of Buchanan Street at 12noon tomorrow.

This evening's events come following another eye-catching protest this morning where 'Squid Game' style games were played by activists dressed as world leaders.

Teenage environmental activist Greta Thunberg is also in Glasgow where she has lead protests and met with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
