Extinction Rebellion protest: Activists put huge pink boat in the middle of Bristol Bridge

Bristol Bridge is blocked by a huge pink boat emblazoned with the words "tell the truth" this morning (July 15).

A five-day "occupation" of Bristol by Extinction Rebellion has already got underway and is disrupting traffic.

The action has kicked off with the protesters installing a boat across the bridge and forming a line across the road.

A banner with the words "act now" also hangs over the bridge.

The group want the Government to change its recently-set target for zero carbon emissions from 2050 to 2025.

Both Avon and Somerset Constabulary and First Bus have warned the public about the disruption the protest is expected to cause.

We are reporting live updates on the Extinction Rebellion protest action here.

Take a look at some of the latest photos in the gallery below:

Ian Coyle, operations director for Bristol at First West of England, said it would be “a very challenging week”.

Those who have followed Extinction Rebellion's action in the past, will recognise the boat.

It blockaded a busy junction in Oxford Circus back in April.

One campaigner even said the action could last for more than five days in Bristol - although he declined to specify which roads would be affected.

We will be bringing you the latest updates on the protest as the week goes on.
