Extinction Rebellion Leeds hit out at racist posters attempting to 'disrupt' movement

Extinction Rebellion Leeds has branded images of racist posters that have emerged online with the group's branding on as "absolutely horrific" and an attempt to "dismantle our internal issues".

The group initially thought the posters had been displayed in Leeds and quickly clarified that they were nothing to do with Extinction Rebellion.

One poster reads 'Stop White Genocide', while another reads 'We don't need mass immigration, we need population control in the third world'.

The understanding now is that the images were taken of posters in Brighton and that there might not be any in Leeds at this time.

"Let's not focus on this obvious attempt to discredit/disrupt our movement too much...", a post read on the Extinction Rebellion Leeds Facebook page.

"Stay vigilant and actively anti-fascist but keep our hearts and mind on the positive actions we can be taking!!"

A number of high profile protests have taken place in Leeds and across the country by the climate activists in the last year. Most notably, a demonstration took place over five days in Leeds and saw protesters block Victoria Bridge in Leeds city centre.

More recently an 'anti-consumerism protest' was organised in the run-up to Christmas disrupting Christmas shoppers in Leeds on December 15.
