Extinction Rebellion issues call for Glasgow climate activists ahead of COP26

Global environmental movement Extinction Rebellion have issued a call for Glasgow climate activists to join them as the city prepares to host COP26 in November this year.

They are searching for Glaswegians looking for a way to contribute to 'tackling the climate and ecological crises' to join their planning team for family activism during the major event.

The call was put out this morning (Thursday, January 30) via a post on Extinction Rebellion Glasgow's Facebook profile.

COP26 will be the biggest ever conference held in Scotland, and will see 30,000 delegates from around the world descend on the city over a ten day period from November 9 to 19.

And Extinction Rebellion see COP26, or The 2020 United Nations Climate Change Conference, as it's also known, as a "unique chance" for people to come together and get involved to address the climate crisis.

The movement is no stranger to Glasgow in recent months, with activists staging a protest to disrupt a meeting on the environment at Glasgow City Council back in September.

Activists also staged a 'die in' at Glasgow Central station in October as part of a nationwide day of protests and blocked a petrol station earlier this month in the south side of the city to 'highlight the role of the fossil fuel industry in the climate emergency'.
