Extinction Rebellion is planning a protest in Cardiff at rush hour on Friday

Extinction Rebellion is planning a "peaceful and legal" protest in Cardiff city centre at rush hour on Friday.

The climate activist group will be meeting behind Cardiff Central train station at 5.30pm.

Organisers of the event, titled Tell The Truth, said they will be calling on BBC Wales to tell the truth, as they believe they are doing a public dis-service with their poor coverage of the climate crisis.

Previously, Extinction Rebellion protesters shut down one of Cardiff's busiest roads , calling on the government to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

They closed off Castle Street for a number of days, and were protected from being arrested by exercising their Article 11 right to protest.

This time around, the BBC is target of Extinction Rebellion, and the Cardiff group will be putting forward eight demands in line with the UK wide Extinction Rebellion group.

An organiser for the event said: "We feel strongly that they [BBC] are doing a public dis-service with their poor coverage and truth telling around the climate and ecological crisis we are in.

"We have eight demands which we will be presenting to BBC Wales which are very similar to the eight demands placed on the BBC by Extinction Rebellion Lonon."

They added that their are many Welsh members of Extinction Rebellion in London, where members have been protesting all week.

One climate activist climbed on top of a British Airways plane at London City Airport on Thursday, as part of the groups plans to 'shut down' the airport for three days.

Extinction Rebellion Cardiff want to show solidarity with their members in London. They also criticised the lack of coverage from BBC Wales this week of the protests in London, as well as any climate crisis stories from the news organisation.

"This needs to change so clearly we need to do something on their doorstep to make it relevant to them," they added.
