Extinction Rebellion has brought a boat for today's protest - but not the one you might expect

Extinction Rebellion protesters have brought a boat to today's protest - but not one you might have been expecting.

Many Bristol residents will remember the now-iconic pink boat which blocked Bristol Bridge during last month's five-day demonstration .

It was originally understood the boat would be making a comeback today, this time painted black for the Star Wars theme.

However, it turns out this afternoon's protest is featuring a rather less impressive makeshift boat made from a crate and wooden panels.

The huge pink boat from last month is nowhere to be seen.

We are reporting live updates from today's Extinction Rebellion protest here .

Climate change activists have dressed up in Star Wars costumes for the protest which will take place in three of the city’s film studios.

It will be the first time Extinction Rebellion has held a demonstration in Bristol since the week-long disruption in July which saw Castle Park and Bristol Bridge taken over, as well as the M32 blocked.

Events are taking place at the Bottle Yard studio in Hengrove , Aardman Animations ’ headquarters on Gas Ferry Road on Spike Island and at the BBC Natural History Unit on Whiteladies Road in Clifton .

It’s part of a national day of lobbying action to ask those who work in the film industry to join the ‘Global Strike for Climate’ on September 20.
