One of the co-founders of Extinction Rebellion has been charged with attempting to cause a public nuisance following protests near Heathrow Airport.
Julian Roger Hallam, 53, known as Roger Hallam, was charged yesterday after being arrested on Sunday, Scotland Yard said.
A Met Police statement said he appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court today and was remanded in custody.
Hallam, of Carmarthen, is next set to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on October 14.
He was arrested on Thursday and Saturday in connection with protest activity in the vicinity of Heathrow Airport.
A total of 19 other people were arrested as part of this operation, the Met said, and all have been bailed or released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Protesters from a splinter group, separate to Extinction Rebellion, named Heathrow Pause had planned action in the vicinity of Heathrow.
Heathrow Pause said the expansion plans for the airport were a "crime against humanity".
