Extinction Rebellion campaigners protest outside Nottingham petrol station

Protestors have gathered outside a Nottinghamshire petrol station for the second day in a row as they call for action on fossil fuels. Extinction Rebellion members were outside the Shell Garage in Huntingdon Street on Tuesday, July 19, as part of an action against the firm and fellow petroleum giant, BP.

On Monday, July 18, there was a group of protestors outside the BP garage on Mansfield Road, on the Sherwood and Daybrook boundary. Further protests are expected at different petrol stations, according to what protestors have said before.

Speaking at the scene of the protest on Mansfield Road on Monday, group spokesperson Ettiene Stott, 43, from The Meadows who is also an Olympic gold medallist in canoe slalom, said: "We are showing that ordinary people can stand up to the fossil fuel industry and make a difference. I think more and more people are receptive to the climate emergency and more and more people know our government is not doing enough."

One motorist, Eric Mooey, who was filling up a company car, said he appreciated the work the protesters were doing. "I wouldn't be filling up here unless I had to," he said.
