Extinction Rebellion call on Dumfries and Galloway MP to back climate emergency bill

A group of environmental activists have called on Scottish Secretary Alister Jack to back a climate emergency bill.

Members of Extinction Rebellion set up a stall in Dumfries town centre to gather signatures for a petition.

It called on Mr Jack, the Dumfries and Galloway MP, to back the Climate and Ecological Emergency (CEE) Bill that is currently in parliament.

The group, wearing face masks and adhering to coronavirus regulations, spoke to members of the public about the climate crisis.

The bill calls for the government to take world-leading measures to tackle the climate emergency and to conserve and protect nature.

The move is the product of an alliance of environmental groups and is already supported by more than 75 MPs.

A spokesman for the group said: “To find out more about the CEE Bill or sign the petition please head to the Extinction Rebellion D&G’s Facebook page.”
