Two climate change activists were arrested after they spent all day blocking the entrance to one of the biggest oil refineries in Europe.
The Extinction Rebellion protesters had set up a road blockade at 5.45am at the Valero Refinery in Pembrokeshire on Thursday, September 19.
They told WalesOnline their action to shut down the refinery was part of the general strike to protest about the climate crisis, which is happening in Cardiff today .
Some of the refinery tankers started driving through fields in order to bypass the protest.
Ten protesters blocked the entrances by lying down on the road and had attached themselves to wooden boxes filled with concrete in a bid to stop vehicles from entering or leaving the site.
Officers from Dyfed Powys Police confirmed they sent specialist officers to the scene and arrested two protesters for unlawful obstruction of the highway on Thursday evening.
A spokesperson said: "Specialist officers were deployed to the scene and as a result of that, two protesters were arrested for unlawful obstruction of the highway and transferred to Haverfordwest custody.
"Others who took part decided to end their protest and have been reported for summons and the items used by them have been seized by the police.
"All protesters have now left the area and police are maintaining high visibility patrols."
Superintendent Robyn Mason said: “Officers spoke to the protesters and partner agencies throughout the day to ensure a balance was maintained between allowing people the right to peaceful protest and the requirement to ensure the safety of, and minimise the disruption to, business and the community.
"We will continue to monitor the situation."
