Extinction Rebellion activists glue themselves to Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment in Dublin

Extinction Rebel Ireland 'Rebels' have today glued themselves to the Climate Department building in Dublin.

Holding photographs of their young loved ones, five activists have superglued their hands to the doors of the Department and said they are willing to risk arrest in order to “ensure the children of this country will have a future”.

It comes after members of the same group stormed the room and interrupted a speech by Environment Minister Richard Bruton at Dublin's Botanic Gardens this morning.

As Richard Bruton took to the podium to speak, two members held up a banner near the minister that read: "60% species extinction globaly (sic) in 45 years no more Sitka."

Extinction Rebellion believes that commercial forestry is using the climate emergency as an excuse to endanger biodiversity, by planting Sitka trees across Ireland.

The international Extinction Rebellion movement began last summer in the UK and rose to prominence in November 2018 when thousands of activists disrupted travel in London.
