Extent of Mo Salah injury confirmed after scans as Liverpool FC extend lead over Man City

Mo Salah could return to action for Liverpool after the international break, as scans have revealed he escaped serious injury in their win over Leicester.

Liverpool's late victory saw them extend their lead in the Premier League to eight points, with Manchester City failing to close the gap back to five points as they slipped to defeat against Wolves on Sunday.

So with City now needing Liverpool to drop points in three games in order to catch their rivals, they could be forgiven for following news of Salah's injury closely - especially with the two sides meeting at Anfield next month.

Salah limped off towards the end of the Leicester game after a challenge from Hamza Choudhury, with manager Jurgen Klopp calling the 'dangerous' tackle worthy of a red card.

Now, the Liverpool Echo report that Salah has suffered a twisted ankle from the incident, but has not sustained any major injury and Liverpool are hopeful of no long term damage.

Salah will not represent Egypt during the coming international break, and could return for Liverpool's trip to Manchester United in a fortnight.

The report says Salah has not yet been ruled in or out of that game, and Liverpool medical staff will make a decision closer to the fixture.

City face Liverpool on November 11 at Anfield, with the latest results placing an added importance on the fixture from City's point of view.

Pep Guardiola's men chased down an eight-point deficit to Liverpool last season in a shorter space of time, but will need to improve on their 0-0 draw at Anfield last year if they are to really put the pressure on their title rivals this campaign.
