Ramen, udon noodles and takoyaki octopus dumplings will be served at the Olympic Village for the 2020 Tokyo Games. A special commission of the Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, which is examining what food and drink will be provided at the village, compiled its basic policy on Thursday.

Many dishes that are popular among Japanese people will be included, in addition to 600 to 700 dishes that are standard fare in countries around the world.

According to the commission, the Olympic Village will have a main dining room and a casual dining room, which will allow players to eat in a laid-back atmosphere after their events.

In the main dining room, in addition to dishes from various countries, plain dishes cooked only with salt and pepper will also be served, so that players can use an array of more than 60 different condiments to flavor the dishes to their own liking. Halal foods, vegetarian foods and gluten-free foods will also be prepared.

The Japanese menu will be served mainly in the casual dining room.

After receiving a report from the commission, the organizing committee will draw up a draft menu by August. It will be approved by the International Olympic Committee in November.
