Police have confirmed that a man who was charged with drink driving and released on police bail will appear at North Somerset Magistrates Court in August.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a crash in Wansbrough Road, Weston-super-Mare, yesterday evening (July 5), where a 38-year-old man allegedly crashed a car into a residential fence whilst drunk driving.

Avon and Somerset police took to social media to describe how the driver only suffered from minor injuries but the damage to other people could have been a lot worse.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the driver was charged with drink driving and released on police bail and will now appear at North Somerset Magistrates Court in August.

The spokesperson said: "Police were called to Wansbrough Road, Weston-Super-Mare, by the ambulance service after a car was in collision with a fence.

"It happened at about 8.40pm on Sunday, July 5 and the vehicle was recovered at about 10.30pm. A man was taken to hospital as a precaution and later released.

Extensive damage was caused to a residential fence on the road and it was the duty of Avon Fire and Rescue Service to make the vehicle safe and clear up an oil spillage on the road.

A spokesperson confirmed: "At 20:53, one crew from Weston fire station were mobilised to reports of a road traffic collision.

"On arrival, firefighters found one vehicle had collided with a tree.

"Crews remained on scene to make the vehicle safe and clear an oil spill.

"Police and ambulance crews were also in attendance."
