The force of the explosions this morning at the Buncefield oil depot in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, could be felt up to 40 miles away.

People living as far away as Surrey reported that they heard the explosions, which shot flames 200ft into the sky.

Homes and surrounding businesses suffered structural damage. Residents nearby said they were awoken by a "loud boom" as their houses "shook".

Police have said they are treating the blasts as an accident and there are no confirmed reports of serious casualties.
