Explosions heard in residential Swansea street as car is destroyed by fire captured on camera

A "huge bang" was heard near homes in a Swansea street after a car burst into flames.

Passers-by described their shock at the size of the fire, which happened in Rhyddings Park Road, Brynmill , at around 2pm on March 5.

Video footage shows roaring flames and thick black smoke coming from the car, before firefighters put it out.

The car was "completely destroyed" by the fire.

A delivery driver, who did not wish to be named, found the car on fire when he was in the area.

He said: "I heard this huge bang and then looked up and saw a huge fume of smoke. I went and saw the car on fire and it looked like it was going to explode any minute and another half an hour I think it would have gone up."

"I was the first one to find it. It was a nice car as well and looked new.

"I saw the police and firemen come then and put it out, they were amazing, you should have seen them.

"They put the fire out and the car is black now. I couldn't believe what I was seeing."

A spokeswoman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue said: "We had a call at 2.16pm to attend a car fire at Rhyddings Park Road, Brynmill, Swansea. One car was completely destroyed in the fire."

What started the fire has not yet been confirmed.

South Wales Police have been approached for comment.
