‘Explosion’ heard across Glasgow as fire crews battle Renfrew blaze

Fire crews have been tackling a large blaze at a Renfrew industrial estate since the early hours of this morning (Friday).

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service responded to an incident at Meadowside Street around 12.50am following reports of an ‘explosion’ heard across the city and several vehicles seen on fire.

@HomeMckee tweeted: “Huge explosion and fire burning south side of the river. First explosion followed by multiple other loud bands. Fire seems lower now.”

@Paleovirologist added: “Huge explosion in Renfrew across the Clyde from Yoker what’s going on?”

The blaze appears to have spread to the roof of an adjacent building as four SFRS appliances and an aerial unit were called to the scene.

The fire has since been extinguished, with two crews remaining on the scene this morning.
