NONTHABURI: Seven people were injured when a clothes dryer exploded at a five-storey laundry in Pak Kret district, Nonthaburi, on Monday morning.

The explosion occurred about 10.30am at the La-ong Fong laundry, part of a 10-unit shophouse building in Pongtham Niwet housing estate on Soi Chaeng Watthana-Pak Kret 32 in tambon Bang Talad.

The laundry was heavily damaged, from the first floor up to the fourth. Rescue workers had to use hydraulic wedge jacks to release five victims trapped in the debris. The seven injured people included two children. They were rushed to local hospitals.

New bicycles on show outside a shop opposite the laundry were also damaged.

Police cordoned off the area. The investigation was continuing.

The force of the explosion toppled bicycles displayed for sale outside a shop across the street.
