Explosion at Kilcoy caravan park sets vans ablaze

The blaze was brought under control by 12:40pm, but not before it ripped through the caravans.

Six caravans have been destroyed in a large explosion at a caravan park in Kilcoy, north-west of Brisbane, on Saturday

Three fire crews were called to the scene after midday, using foam to extinguish the blaze.

Police and ambulance officers also attended.

The park was evacuated and there are no reports of injuries.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said fire investigators would work with police to try to establish the cause.

Irene, who works at the caravan park, jumped in to help.

"A few people tried," she said.

"But it ended up getting too much for us, I've inhaled a lot of smoke."

"The ambulance people evacuated us, I'm just glad we were able to get all the people and animals out of the way."

Leah Fischer was at the scene and said the fire was burning "extremely hot".

"I have no idea what started the fire, all I know is it went quick," Ms Fischer said.

"It took a couple of minutes for the fire to grab hold of the second van.

"Once the explosions started happening I stopped videoing and took cover not knowing what was exploding.

"About 30 seconds prior to the really big boom I could hear constant high pitched squealing, hissing sounds, then an explosion."
