Explore Notre-Dame before blaze with unique VR screening in Bristol

Bristol's new virtual reality theatre has received widespread acclaim since opening last month.

Limina VR, the first theatre of its kind to open in the UK, has already gained a reputation for screening some of the most creative virtual reality work to date and has welcomed hundreds of visitors every week.

And this weekend it's launching a new show which will give viewers a stunning 360 degree tour of the Notre-Dame before the blaze ravaged it, as well as the opportunity to meet the man leading the cathedral’s restoration, Patrick Chauvet.

The fascinating show launches tomorrow (Saturday, May 18) with screenings every 30 minutes throughout the afternoon.

Chris Sizemore, Limina Immersive’s co-founder, said: “We are so pleased to bring this unique, behind-the-scenes experience of Notre-Dame cathedral to Bristol audiences.

"Notre-Dame is one of the world's most revered monuments, and the dreadful recent fire there has produced an enormous emotional reaction in France and across the globe.

"In The Man Behind Notre Dame, made before the fire, Rector-Archpriest Patrick Chauvet sheds light on what Notre Dame cathedral means in the 21st century.

"French virtual reality filmmakers TARGO have created something very special – their camera takes you to every corner of Notre Dame, even to the top of one of its towers.”

The fire at the Notre-Dame broke out on April 15. By the time it was extinguished, the building's spire and most of its roof had been destroyed and its upper walls severely damaged.

The Archbishop of Paris has said that only a fraction of the money promised to rebuild the famous building has been paid so far.
