Explore Glasgow's history in photos and add colour to your own black and white shots for free

Glasgow was a grand old city in black and white - but a splash of colour makes everything better.

If you're the type who loves to dig through old photos - whether of your own family or of the neighbourhood you live in today - then this new (and free) service might keep you occupied for hours.

And we're right there with you ...

If you've ever wondered what your great granddad would look like in full colour, or how your street shaped up 100 years ago then our sister website InYourArea.co.uk has you covered.

Its new feature, Memory Lane, uses your postcode to show a vast range of local pictures throughout recent history, from anywhere between one and 100 miles away.

Just by signing up with your email address, you'll get full access to hundreds of thousands of images pulled together from dozens of different online archives including Britain From Above, Francis Frith, our publisher Reach plc's own library, Geograph and many others.

Memory Lane allows you to add colour to old black and white photos, like this shot of leafy Dennistoun in 1946 (Daily Record)

Your own historic images can also be added to the archive for others to see.

And you'll be able to breathe new life into your own black and white photographs by using Memory Lane's incredible tool to give them full colour.

Enter your postcode above to take a trip down Memory Lane and see what amazing discoveries await.

Ad if you have any incredible shots of Glasgow to share then you know where we are - because we love delving into a bit of local history, as the stories above show.
