Explained: When the domestic transfer window closes and the business Nottingham Forest can still do

The international transfer window has now closed, with clubs reflecting on their summer business.

Despite the financial impacts of COVID-19, £1.24bn was spent by Premier League clubs this summer.

Spending has dropped off in the EFL, with so many clubs relying on free transfers and loans amid financial uncertainty caused by behind closed doors matches.

Whilst clubs can no longer trade abroad, the second domestic transfer window remains open.

Here, we break down exactly what clubs - including Nottingham Forest - can and can't do and those all-important dates.

When is the second transfer window closed?

The second transfer window closes at 5pm on Friday, October 16.

What business can clubs conduct during the second window?

Clubs from the Premier League can sign players from the EFL and vice versa up until the second transfer window closes.

Equally, EFL clubs can still trade amongst themselves, unlike Premier League clubs, with no restriction on transfers within the same division.

Players could still be sold abroad during this window, permitting that league's transfer window remains open.
