'Explain it' - Leeds United fans fume over contrasting Saiss and Pogba refereeing decisions

There was some concern when Raphinha limped off in the second-half of Leeds United's 1-1 draw with Wolves following a strong challenge from Romain Saiss.

The Moroccan appeared to catch the winger high on the shin with his studs despite taking the ball and Raphinha subsequently had to be replaced by Crysencio Summerville.

It prompted calls from the Elland Road crowd for a red card to be shown, but the officials decided against it.

A similar tackle was made by Paul Pogba on Sunday in Manchester United's humbling 5-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool and he was subsequently sent off after a VAR check.

This has sparked some discussion amongst Leeds fans, who didn't see a difference between the two, with one fan claiming that there's 'no consistency' with the use of the technology.

Here's what some had to say on social media.

@9Cinq9: That Pogba tackle is no worse than the one on Raphinha #lufc where the #Woves player never got a yellow for the tackle but for handball!!

@Davewalkeilsa1 How that saiss never got red yesterday and pogba did is disgraceful reffing var not even checked #lufc done again

@duncan_lister: Can anyone explain to me the difference between Pogba’s red card tackle and the yellow card tackle on #Raphina yesterday?

@LeedsUnited43: Can someone talk me through how VAR reviews Pogba’s red card but yet the same tackle of Raphinha is only a yellow card and doesn’t get checked

@speleeds1: Red card for Pogba but not for Saiss for the same tackle on Raph?

@RomCrombwell: I'd love for someone to explain to me the difference between Pogba's tackle on Jota that got him a red card and Saiss' tackle on Raphinha that got him nothing at all.

@watto396: Paul pogba yellow card upgrade to red. How come Leeds v wolves dangerous foul on Raphinha was not upgraded. Seems to me no consistency with VAR terrible.

Fortunately for Leeds, Raphinha posted a message on his Instagram after the game, saying that he will be 'back soon', although it looks unlikely that he'll make it for the trip to Arsenal on Tuesday.

The Brazil international stated: "Hello guys. Just coming to say I’m fine. It was nothing serious.

“So I’m back soon. Thank you for all the messages and concern of all."
