Expired drugs found, Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak orders probe

LUCKNOW: Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak ordered an inquiry after several boxes of expired medicines were recovered from a park in Sector 14 of Indiranagar on Saturday.

The matter came to light after the minister was informed by residents of the area that several boxes of expired medicines have been dumped at the gate of a park.

“I have ordered health department officials to probe into the matter. Initial investigation suggests that these are not government drugs and belong to some private hospital or nursing home. “Police have been asked to seize the drugs and submit a report of this incident,” the minister said in a series of tweets.

According to health department sources, the drugs include medicines for treatment of urinary tract infection, and bone and kidney disease.

This is not the first time when large quantities of expired drugs have been found. Earlier, government medicines worth Rs 30 crore were found lying at the warehouse of Pradesh Medical Supplies Corporation Limited while on May 12, expired drugs worth Rs 2 lakh were found at medicine storage of Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences.
