Experts warn you may struggle to sleep tonight and tomorrow

Experts are warning many of us may struggle to sleep tonight and tomorrow due to a phenomenon that only happens once a year.

This year's first full moon, known as the Wolf Moon, will reach peak illumination at 11.07pm on Friday (January 6). With UK weather conditions remaining relatively clear throughout the week, visibility may differ depending on your location across the country.

But apart from being able to see it, the moon is thought to also affect our bodies, according to a growing number of experts.

The idea that the moon can affect mood is not new, people have held this belief for many years. With that in mind, Wellness brand, Goodrays, has taken a deep dive into why the full moon affects our mood and sleep so that you can prepare ahead of Friday night.

Many people theorise that a full moon causes sleep disruption because of the amount of sunlight reflected back to Earth. Another hypothesis that has gained popularity over the years is that when the moon circles the Earth, it passes through the magnetotail and becomes negatively charged and research suggests that humans are sensitive to low-level geomagnetic variations.

Emotions run high during the full moon. It's possible that you'll experience stress and become a little more irritable than usual, and you may find yourself struggling to sleep.

To help, try limiting screen time at least an hour before bed, and limit the use of light in the bedroom after the sun goes down.
