Experts to chalk out roadmap for water positive UP; CM Yogi Adityanath, Jal Shakti minister to attend TOI water conclave

LUCKNOW: Water forms the core of human existence and plays a crucial role in our life cycle.

It is on the banks of waterbodies that civilizations evolved and the quest for safe drinking water decides the way people in different parts of the world live.

The life of people in water surplus and deficit societies is a contrast of sorts.

However, indiscriminate use of this elixir of life has made clean drinking water a finite resource.

The skewed distribution of potable water poses unique challenges for communities and societies. Together, they call for convergent efforts to save every possible drop to guarantee comfortable existence of the present and future generations.

According to experts, India is not a water deficit country but poor management of the available resources leads to scarcity. Uttar Pradesh is home to many rivers but access to safe water is a challenge.

Many activities launched for water conservation awareness

Uttar Pradesh is home to many rivers but access to safe water is a challenge.

They believe that tapping, conserving, cleaning and channelizing available water sources through appropriate interventions can contribute to water security and sustainability in the state.

Keeping the importance of water conservation in view, the Times of India group decided to translate plans into action in the form of a campaign, ‘Make India Water Positive’, a TOI initiative.

As part of the campaign, various activities have been launched to create awareness on various facets of water conservation. The initiative also brings various stakeholders on a common platform to help develop a water sustainable mindset so that someday India, including UP, becomes water resilient.

The thought also echoed with the Uttar Pradesh government which has undertaken steps to check wastage of water and promote its conservation in all possible ways.

The aligned thoughts led to the birth of the TOI-UP Government partnership to hold a conclave, ‘Making Uttar Pradesh Water Positive’, and bring the best brains to draw the roadmap for making UP a water smart and water positive state.

The event – slated to take place at Taj Ganges in Varanasi on October 6 between 11am and 6pm – will be attended by politicians, bureaucrats, policymakers, academicians, technical experts, community leaders and civil society members who will present diverse aspects of water conservation in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and minister for water resources and Jal Shakti Mahendra Singh.

As many as seven community leaders will also be felicitated on the occasion to show the way and reinforce the larger message that change begins with you.
