Experts explain bizarre picture of man carrying swan down busy road in north Belfast

Experts have explained a bizarre picture of a man carrying a swan down a busy road in north Belfast.

Some thought he had "stolen" it from the Waterworks area when he was spotted on Friday.

But a local animal charity stepped in to help to clear things up on Saturday night, Belfast Live reports.

Debbie Doolittle Wild Life posted on Facebook: "Yesterday a poor guy was accused of stealing a swan from the Waterworks.

"This has now gone viral with even local well know pages in Belfast sharing without having any facts! Doesn't surprise me at all!

Footage shows the moment a swan waddles through the middle of O'Connell Bridge as cars whizz passed on either side

"I was in contact with them yesterday as they were concerned about her. She's been sitting on the path edge all day as the younger ones have been bullying the older ones - she was just exhausted."

Correspondence between Debbie and the man was also shared in the post.

In it the man reaches out to say: "Hi Debbie, we need urgent assistance with a swan if you're about."

He then posted an picture of it sitting on the road, adding: "It's just lying there. It won't/ can't move.

"People were letting their dogs run at it so we lifted it. It didn't move when even when the dogs run at it. It looks like it has zero energy."

Debbie advised the man to walk over to it and pick it up, to which he replied: "It let us lift without any hassle. We brought it to Antrim Road vets."

She added that the bird "was taken to the vet and checked then brought back shortly after".

Many have taken to social media to commend him for helping the "exhausted" bird.
