Experts create new rating system to help people buy an EV

ELECTRIC car experts have created a new efficiency-ranking system to help motorists buying an EV.

The Electrifying.com system sees cars in their reviews badged in the same way vehicle mpg and home appliance energy labels are displayed in showrooms and shops, with grades from A++ down to E.

The E-Rating set-up uses an algorithm that includes factors such as how well electrical power is converted into miles on the road, battery recharging speeds, heat pumps, intelligent brake energy recuperation and climate control pre-conditioning.

AA president Edmund King said: “Anything that helps consumers decide on the most efficient EV for their needs in simple terms can only be a positive thing.”

Electrifying.com founder Ginny Buckley said: “It amazes me that until now we haven’t had an effective efficiency standard for electric cars, as we do across other sectors – but we’ve looked to put this right.”
