Experts confirm best place to see partial lunar eclipse in Ireland on Friday morning

Irish stargazers will be able to catch a glimpse of the partial lunar eclipse as the sun rises on Friday morning.

According to Astronomy Ireland, the partial phase will begin at 7:18 am when the Moon will be 5 degrees above the west-northwesterly horizon.

David Moore, Editor of Astronomy Ireland magazine advised that "everyone should watch from 6.30 am to 8 am as the Moon goes down in the West and dawn begins to break.”

The best view of events will reportedly be seen in Dublin, according to Timeanddate.com, which recommends finding a high point with an unobstructed view to a west-northwesterly direction.

They said 7:54 am “is the moment when the eclipse reaches its greatest magnitude while the entire Moon is above the horizon in Dublin.

“The true maximum point of this eclipse cannot be seen in Dublin because the Moon is below the horizon at that time.

“Since the Moon is near the horizon at this time, we recommend going to a high point or finding an unobstructed area with free sight to West-northwest for the best view of the eclipse.”

Aside from here in Ireland, the lunar event will be visible across the globe in much of Europe, Asia, Australia, North/West Africa, North America, South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and the Arctic.

Space lovers will then have to wait until May 9, 2022, for the full lunar eclipse that will be visible in South/West Europe, South/West Asia, Africa, Much of North America, South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Antarctica.
