Expert warns of omicron symptoms in kids to look out for as schools return

Schools are set to make a return this week and with many preparing to go back after the festive period, parents are worried about the safety of their children despite the wearing of face masks.

The traditional signs of coronavirus that we have come to learn over the past two years include a fever, a new and continuous cough as well as loss or change in sense of taste or smell.

However with the new variant of omicron, symptoms seem to stray from this making it difficult to differentiate between omicron and the common cold, reports the Mirror.

But as children mix indoors yet again, what are the omicron symptoms that parents should to look out for?

Speaking to Sky News, the four main symptoms that health and covid experts are asking parents to look out for, according to GP Dr David Lloyd are fatigue, a headache, a loss of appetite and a skin rash.

He added that while symptoms like rashes have been appearing in a "small cohort" of adult covid patients, up to 15% of children with Omicron seem to get an unusual rash.

Despite some key symptoms being different to other variants, other signs appearing in children can include the more traditional symptoms such as a high temperature, a new and continuous cough and a loss or change to a sense of smell or taste.
