Following a hack going viral on TikTok with over 10million views suggesting that knickers can also be worn as a shirt, underwear experts from Lounge Underwear have shared why they warn against styling your lingerie in this way.
User @sieling.j shared a TikTok video with three alternative ways to wear panties as a shirt with the caption, “wearing underwear as a shirt cause I can”. From two thongs crossed over to create a bralette, to shorts tied across the chest as a shirt, users are feeling inspired by the TikToker, stitching the video to show their interpretation of the idea.
However, underwear experts from Lounge Underwear say this is not something that you should try out.
Mel Marsden, Founder of Lounge Underwear said: “As the product is not designed to be worn in this way, wearing your underwear as a shirt across the torso could stretch out the fabric of your favourite knickers. Consequently, this may hinder the functionality of your pants and potentially lead to irritation and unwanted bacteria reaching places that they shouldn't.
"We're all for a bit of fun, and of course, we love a bit of sustainability and versatility with wearing products in multiple ways to get the most wear out of it - but we're not sure this is the trend to be jumping on. Although this hack appears to be effective for making the most out of your underwear, we recommend not doing this, and instead, simply buying something designed to be worn this way, as not only will you be preserving your knickers, but your boobs will be far more comfortable in the support and protection of a bralette designed to be worn on the chest."
