With the icy winter months now underway, many people will be concerned about how to effectively dry off soggy laundry indoors, a task which will prove to be particularly tricky this year. In winters gone by, many of us would have simply popped the heating on for a bit while drying clothes inside, but rising energy bills means this just may not be an option for everyone.
Laundry experts from In The Wash have advised against hanging up your wet laundry in your bedroom in wintertime, a period when you most likely won't be cracking open your window. During these colder months, it can be hard to keep a bedroom ventilated, especially without the extractor fan you'd normally find in a bathroom. These also tend to be smaller spaces, whereas clothes need plenty of room to dry.

The experts told the Express : "The bedroom is one of the rooms you spend the most time in. Given the fact that wet laundry encourages mould growth, dampness and potential health issues it would be better to keep it out of a room you spend a lot of time in."

They added: "Drying laundry in such an ill-equipped environment could enhance higher chances of getting a mould infestation.
"In turn, this could lead to more serious health complications for the bedroom user, damp could give rise to several structural problems in the bedroom, and said problems could be costly to put right.”
Of course, those who live in smaller spaces or in flat shares may not have much of a choice about where they dry their clothes, in which instance a dehumidifier could help to promote healthy air and keep mould at bay.
The experts continued: "It's not practical to have a large clothes horse in the middle of a bedroom where you could trip over it in the middle of the night.
"Of course, if your bedroom isn't that big, having lots of wet laundry packed into an already busy space, means that air won't be able to circulate around properly. So, the issues listed above may be magnified in such a tiny space."
