Expert shares reason your home is losing so much heat this winter

An expert has revealed the reason why homes across the country may be losing so much heat this winter.

The energy usage in your home increases by 36% in the winter months compared to the summer - but some common issues within the home could cause your energy usage to surge.

And with more people working from home in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, that number is expected to rise.

MyJobQuote.co.uk did some investigating to discover the best ways to ensure you can stay warm during the colder months while also saving some money in the process.

The experts discovered 35% of heat in the home is lost due to a lack of glazing on windows.

If you have ineffective windows for the winter months, effective double glazing will help reduce the cost of heating your home and prevent those frosted window sills.

Ensure your windows are effectively glazed to keep your home warm - and your heating bills lower.

There's much debate on the most effective way to heat your home during the colder months but if you don’t have smart heating, MyJobQuote.co.uk advises turning down your thermostat by a couple of degrees and putting on a jumper.

The ideal temperature is 21°C for us to be comfortable, so checking this temperature and reducing the amount of energy used will save money and help to protect the planet.

Another costly issue within homes is caused by leaking taps. A leaking tap could be wasting 5,500 litres of water every year if left unresolved.

According to MyJobQuote.co.uk, for many households this winter, fixing any leaking or hard to use taps should be a priority - and it is normally pretty easy to do.

You’ll save money by using less water and you will be doing your bit to reduce water waste.
