Expert shares natural cleaning hack for stubborn stains as 'bleach won't work'

Cleaning stains that won't fade is a never-ending battle, but it turns out you might be using the wrong product. For stubborn toilet stains, one expert says bleach won't get the job done.

Toilet bowl stains can accumulate and become an even tougher job if you neglect them. Even more frustratingly, having hard water means they will regularly reappear even if you keep on top of the problem.

Chris Wootton, managing director of Poppies, a domestic cleaning business, has stepped in to lend his expertise. He swears by a "golden rule" for cleaning toilet bowl stains that uses just two natural ingredients you may already have on hand, the Express reported.

He said: "The golden rule for cleaning toilet bowl stains is to use non-alkaline products. Most toilet bowl stains appear in hard water areas, so it's important to remember that bleach won't work, and you will need to use an acid-based product such as limescale remover.

"While bleach doesn't get rid of limescale, it does make it invisible which blends in with the colour of the toilet bowl. That's why toilet bowl stains appear to come back quickly, as they never actually went away."

To ensure the limescale is gone for good, Chris recommends using white vinegar to make your own powerful but natural cleaning hack. Vinegar works for the job as it is a non-alkaline cleaning solution.

Chris instructed: "Making a vigorous acidic solution is best done by using white vinegar. Pour a half cup of bicarbonate of soda into and around the bowl and let it sit for at least 15 minutes."
