Expert shares correct way to make perfect cup of tea - and people are horrified

An expert has shared the scientifically correct way to make the perfect cup of tea - and people have been left horrified.

Dr Andrew Stapley, of Loughborough University, is a chemical engineer who has undertaken research in order to find the perfect science behind the ultimate cup of tea.

In news which will shock and horrify guzzlers of the nation's favourite drink, he says you should make your tea with the milk poured in first.

But there's more news which will confuse tea lovers - pouring tea into the milk - not the other way around - is what we should be doing in order to make the perfect cuppa.

Dr Stapley found that if you pour milk into a hot brew, the milk will heat unevenly which will cause the proteins in your milk to alter their natural quality, which is the main culprit for the floaty bits that appear at the top of your brew.

This will cause the proteins in your milk to 'denature' (alter the natural quality of), which is the main culprit for the floaty bits that appear at the top of your mug, which causes the milk to lose its flavour in the tea-making process.

The research also revealed pouring your milk into the cup before the hot water can help to prevent hard water, as the proteins in the milk can lower the mineral content of your water and bring back the flavour to an otherwise mediocre brew.
