Expert says incoming weather system will 'block' wind and rain as welcome change on the way

The weather is due to take a dip with persistent rain and low temperatures before a high-pressure system brings about a nice change over the coming days.

According to the Carlow Weather Twitter page: “A lot of cloud around today and same for next few days but some sunny spells later in the week as high pressure builds West of Ireland.

“The high will block most of the wind and rain. A few brief dips in temperatures but generally milder”.

Meanwhile, Met Eireann’s forecast for the week ahead suggests Monday will be rather dull with fog lingering in the morning and there'll be patchy rain on coasts with sunny spells too. The highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees are expected in mostly light southerly or variable breezes.

There will be some cloudy with patches of rain drizzle and fog on Monday night and lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees are expected in light southwesterly or variable breezes.

Further spells of rain, drizzle, and fog will arrive on Tuesday alongside highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in mainly light to moderate southwesterly winds - fresher in the northwest.

There will be little change on Tuesday night, according to the Irish forecasters as persistent rain will develop in the north and west towards morning. The lowest temperatures of 3 degrees in the south to 9 degrees are due in light to moderate southerly winds - once again, fresher in the northwest.

On Wednesday, rain in the north and west will gradually track southeastwards through the morning and early afternoon with some sunny spells and showers following. The highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees will turn colder as the rain clears and light southerly winds veer northwesterly.

Thursday will feel colder with a northerly wind developing and Thursday night will be very cold and clear with temperatures well below freezing.

“Current indications for the extended outlook indicate changeable conditions with rain and showers at times. Temperatures generally ranging from 8 to 10 degrees”.
