Expert says bed bugs can be 'eliminated' with chemical-free trick

Bed bug infestations are on the rise, as summer is the perfect time for these bloodsucking pests to breed.

The creatures are nocturnal, and love to take over upholstered surfaces like comfy mattresses. And it only takes one sleep in an infested bed to leave you covered in painful, itchy bites.

Jordan Foster of Fantastic Pest Control told the Express you need to "clean the places where they reside" to eliminate them, and there are several steps households can take to get rid of these pests.

Before doing anything, it's important to make sure that you are dealing with these kind of bugs and not other biters like mosquitos or fleas. Once you are sure you have bed bugs, Jordan says the first step is to wash whatever items you can from the room.

He said: “Wash bedding, linens, curtains, and clothing in hot water, and dry them on the highest setting. The items that cannot be washed, such as stuffed animals and shoes, should go in the dryer on high for 30 minutes".

Bed bugs can be killed at all life stages through dry cleaning, which is the “most effective treatment” to get rid of them, claimed the expert. He added: "Moreover, it is more time-efficient than chemical treatments.”
