Expert reveals four main Omicron symptoms showing in double and triple vaccinated

An expert has revealed four of the main symptoms of the Omicron variant being reported in those double or triple jabbed.

The Government has introduced a raft of new measures in an attempt to curb the spread of the variant, including introducing daily testing for everyone who has come into contact with a positive case.

The first UK cases of Omicron were confirmed on November 27, and the speed of its spread has led to a dramatic acceleration of the booster jab programme.

In an address to the nation on Sunday, Boris Johnson has urged everyone eligible to "get boosted now".

The Prime Minister also said everybody aged 18 and over will have the chance to get their booster before the New Year, bringing the previous target of boosting all adults by the end of January forward by an entire month.

So far one person is confirmed to have died from the Omicron variant - but their age or vaccination status isn't known.

The ZOE Covid app, which logs submissions from millions of users across the UK, has begun to hint at the variant's ability to evade vaccine-induced antibodies, the Express reports.

Speaking in his latest video, Tim Spector, Professor of Genetic Epidemiology at King’s College London, who heads up the ZOE Covid study app, explained the symptoms being reported in those double or triple jabbed.

Professor Spector said: "A regular ZOE user entertained a 60th birthday party gathering with 18 guests.

"All of them had taken lateral flow tests prior to the gathering. On Sunday they were informed that one of the guests - who happened to be a teacher - had tested positive and the following week 16 out of 18 had fallen ill in some way."

He continued: "They were subsequently informed by NHS test and trace that it was Omicron or probable Omicron and they were waiting to get the genetic sequencing confirmations."

What symptoms did they experience?

According to the professor, the symptoms they reported were pretty mild.

He said: "Quite a few of them had nausea, slight temperature, sore throats and headaches.

Professor Spector added that although nobody was bad enough to need a doctor or go to hospital, all had been "double and triple vaccinated".

He also said Covid cases in London are accelerating more than was seen during the very first wave of the virus.
