Expert brings up another reason Dwayne Haskins shouldn’t start right away

By now, those who don’t want to see the Washington Redskins start Dwayne Haskins in 2019 have loudly made their claims.

And they all make plenty of sense. The schedule is brutal, he might not be ready, etc. No matter where one falls in the argument, the points are valid.

Some fresh points from Bleacher Report’s Mike Tanier join the “understandable” column too:

“If Haskins is thrown into the lineup right away, he might get injured behind a line featuring Flowers and left tackle Rando McNottrentwilliams. Or he could develop shaky habits that might jeopardize his career. Or he could end up a pawn in yet another Washington power struggle.”

The potentially terrible state of the offensive line is just one of the points Tanier brings up too — the other is just as important. He points to reports that Dan Snyder overruled his coaches with the drafting of Haskins, which suggests guys like Jay Gruden were comfortable with Case Keenum.

Regardless of whether that’s the case, Redskins brass like Snyder have to think long term, which could mean looking past Gruden’s tenure. Gruden indeed might go into next year with his guy, Keenum, and pending the results, Snyder might make a change and have a potential franchise quarterback like Haskins waiting for the next guy.

That’s a lot to digest on the Haskins front, though there is plenty of time between now and September to chew.
