‘Experimental, fun and joyful’ — super-stylist Harry Lambert on Emma Corrin’s avant-garde red carpet run

Emma Corrin is quickly becoming one of the most exciting faces to see on a red carpet. Not least because you never know if it’s going to be covered in chrome elf makeup, adorned with massive Schiaparelli prawn earrings, or sporting a bleached crop that just seems to tie everything together.

But it’s the outfits that seal the deal with Corrin. Ever since the 2020 press tour for The Crown, where they cranked out crazy look (Richard Quinn puff sleeves for The Graham Norton Show) after crazy look (Miu Miu patterned bodysuit with matching skirt), the actor has made it known that they get fashion.

It helps that Corrin also works with one of the hottest stylists of the moment, Harry Lambert. Those Crown press tour looks were the work of Lambert, after the two met at a gig and hit it off. “We became friends first before working together,” Lambert tells the Evening Standard. “I think Emma was at their early stages of exploring fashion and we worked together on evolving that over time, we both knew that the main aim was to be fun and daring.”

As well as his collabs with Corrin, Lambert is known for bringing a dollop of “fun and daring” to looks for the likes of Josh O’Connor, Alexander Skarsgård, Barry Keoghan, Iris Law, Olivia Wilde and, of course, Harry Styles.

Lambert has worked closely with Styles for years, essentially cementing the pop star as the style(s) icon that he is today. The master stylist has dressed Styles for album covers, tour performances, Grammy appearances and film festivals.

This autumn, Corrin is on the press circuit supporting two of their films, Lady Chaterley’s Lover and My Policeman, which they star in alongside Styles. That two of Lambert’s prize jewels are touring with the same film has made for some stunning outfit combinations and real red carpet treats — including Corrin’s Miu Miu black dress and cape combo for the TIFF premiere, worn with silvery mint makeup that was echoed in the multi-tonal green of Styles’ Gucci suit and handbag.

Lambert loves dressing Corrin for red carpets, which he says are like “live editorials”. “The red carpet is a special place, so it feels like the perfect place to do something editorial and memorable.”

But Corrin’s not just stepping up for the red carpets — their style is evolving to be more avant garde and camp anyway, according to Lambert. “It’s evolved naturally, to wearing things that are experimental, fun, joyful, chic and also taking into account Emma's evolving exploration on their own gender [...] We both love the world of camp and theatre and I think there is a big inspiration from there.”

And if you need photographic proof of this joyful chic, this weekend Corrin turned up to the European premiere of My Policeman wearing the JW Anderson fish bag dress, which few could hope to pull off without giving serious hometown carnival energy. And yet, they did it.

There’s also a host of Miu Miu and Loewe looks that have been worn with ease by Corrin in recent months that have brought a breath of fresh air to celeb events. Their BRIT awards Loewe balloon dress, for example, was a risk that paid off. Stylist Lambert clearly agreed, captioning a picture of the outfit on Instagram: “In love! This one is for the gays.”

And even more recently, Corrin was seen sporting a custom Miu Miu look to the BFI Premiere of Lady Chaterley’s Lover, with grey tights and Cartier jewellery. If there was ever an argument for grey tights (and there really rarely is), this is it.

Nowadays, Lambert says he and Corrin are loving SS Daley, Harris Reed, Marco Ribeiro, Kiko Kostadinov, 16 Arlington, and Chopova Lowena — so you can count on these brands gracing the red carpet on Corrin’s frame real soon.

Thanks to Lambert — and the pair’s keen eye for taking risks — Corrin’s red carpet supremacy has already been assured this season — and we’re still five months away from even a glimpse of an Oscar statue. There’s one thing for sure: this duo doesn’t miss.
