Experience culinary evolution

For the first time, Bangkok epicures can experience the thrilling cuisine of world-acclaimed chef Andoni Luis Aduriz of the two Michelin-starred restaurant Mugaritz in the Basque region of Spain.

A native of San Sebastián, Aduriz is considered by many as an heir to the title of Spain's most pioneering chef, Ferran Adria. He has worked under the legendary Adria at El Bulli in Catalonia in the early 90s before opening Mugaritz in 1998.

Mugaritz earned its first Michelin star in 2000 and a second one in 2005. For its revolutionary "techno-emotional Spanish cuisine", the restaurant is No.9 on the World's 50 Best Restaurants list. The Spanish culinary wizard has also received S. Pellegrino "Chef's Choice Award", bestowed upon him by fellow chefs in 2006 and 2012.

His avant-garde approach to cuisine takes cues on advanced food technologies. It is not just to produce a novel dining pleasure but also to evoke an emotional effect for guests to ensure a great gastronomical experience. At his scientist-attached cooking lab and restaurant in a misty, mountainous, eucalyptus-lined border of Errenteria and Astigarraga towns, a meal showcasing Basque cuisine with a playful innovative touch takes place over 20 courses.

Dishes come with as whimsical and original a name and presentation such as "An Oyster's Frozen Kiss", "Dried Hydrangea of Cocoa", and "Soldier Striped Shrimp from the Alboran Sea", while a lamb loin is served with "its cultivated wool".

From Dec 7-9, Chef Aduriz will be in Bangkok to showcase his culinary finesses at the Dining Room of The House on Sathorn and will host a seminar and a masterclass. Along with the House on Sathorn's executive chef Fatih Tutak, the Spanish guest chef will be presenting a special 13-course dinner.

Highlighted creations include An Oyster's Frozen Kiss; Arturo Sanchez Mountaineers Iberico Ham with Acorns and Oaktree Leaves; 100% Lobster; A Few Minutes for Recreation; The Game at the Table; Egg Yolks Tucked in with a Sea Urchin Blanket; and Whiskey Pie.

Chef Andoni Luis Aduriz will host a seminar and masterclass at the Social Room, W Hotel, on Dec 7 from 2.30-6.30pm, priced at 2,900 baht per person. The 13-course dinner by chef Andoni Luis Aduriz at The Dining Room, The House on Sathorn, starts at 7.30pm and is priced 11,500 baht per person. An additional wine pairing costs 2,500 baht per person.
